When ectopic ACTH production is associated with a rapidly advancing tumour, a severe wasting syndrome is seen in which typical Cushingoid appearances are absent (Fig. 8.10), although more slowly growing lesions may produce a clinical picture identical to that of classic Cushing's syndrome.
